Four
Toronto Blue Jays’ players, along with manager John Gibbons, got a birds-eye
view of Canada’s national game when they attended a Kingston Frontenacs’ hockey
game in January. It was all part of the major league baseball club’s annual
winter tour. SPJN students Liam McGuire and Danny Wright were on hand to cover
the event.
Adam Lind sported an impressive
toque complete with pom-pom as he and teammates Anthony Gose, Steve Delabar,
and Josh Thole took part in a ceremonial puck drop. McGuire and Wright got to
interview the Jays who mingled with fans and took in the OHL game between
Kingston and the Oshawa Generals.
“Josh (Thole) knew a lot about
hockey. He said he’s a fan of the Colorado Avalanche,” McGuire said. “But most
of them didn’t have much experience watching hockey. They’d never been to an
OHL game before.”
McGuire’s story on the Jays’ visit
was posted on the MLB Web site. Wright’s story will be broadcast in an upcoming
edition of the SPJN students’ show 110%
Sports.
