Wham Bam Thank You Jim Lang

Jim Lang of Sportsnet with Loyalist Sports J's

Mind your manners around microphones and thoroughly research every story.

Those were two of the key messages Sportsnet anchor Jim Lang had for students when he visited Loyalist College in March.

Lang, 44, is a Sportsnet anchor and senior NHL reporter in Toronto. Prior to joining Sportsnet, he was the sports director at Q107 radio.

Lang showed students some of the TV stories he did while covering Super Bowl XLIV in Miami. His associate producer for the week was Loyalist BJ grad Scott Moore. Lang explained the process that goes into hunting down the best archive footage; how stories are fed back to Toronto from out-of-town locations; and how to hustle after a game to get good quotes.

The veteran sportscaster also reminded students to be very careful around open mics. An off-the-cuff remark can land a journalist in a heap of hot water if uttered near a live microphone. He also reinforced the importance of background research and becoming as familiar as possible with every story -- before venturing out to any event.

Loyalist Sports J Grads Call Dukes Comeback

Loyalist College Sports Journalism grads Joel Lavictoire and David Foot call the final game of the amazing comeback staged by the Wellington Dukes of the CCHL.  The Dukes were down 3-0 in the series and came back to win it in game seven.
This is a good example of what Loyalist Sports J grads are doing:
